I need a bank account for the online small business I’m starting with my sister?
I need to know a few things:
1. At what point must I start paying taxes on the money we make (this is selling things as much as you would at a yard sale, maybe $200 per month right now) and who pays the taxes? The company itself?
2. Where can I go to compare checking account rates for this type of account? (I will not need to borrow money)
3. What do I need in order to open the bank account once I choose a bank (I’d like to earn interest on the money)
4. Do you have to have a license to have a small business online? What about sales tax?

First, the taxes are going to depend on what state you live in, so you would want to check with your state on that.
Second, I would call around or visit some banks and let them know what you need, most are very helpful and could give you that information in only a few minutes.
Next, you will have to have everyone with you who will be on the account (ex. if it’s you and your sister they would require you both to be there.) Also, you would need some sort of identification driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc. You would also have to have the papers you filed with the state to show that the business is real and does belong to you, along with the company’s tax ID number.

I do not know. But, we use a “Dome Accounting Ledger” about $10-12 at many office supply stores like Office Depot. It so simple, even a caveman can use it. How I used it; as I received and paid bills, I log them in the ledger then put the Receipts in a regular file folder, one behind the next so they in date order. Once in the folder they in the Book. End of year Book already balanced and ready for your taxes. Copy of tax form and staple receipts to the form and stick in or on the Ledger and file in a box. Then it all there if your ever get audited by You know who?
