What accounting software do you use for your small business?
I currently use Microsoft Access for my small business accounting, which has worked well because of my size and budget. However, Access is not very user-friendly! I’ve heard good things of Quickbooks, but would like to keep my options open. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would highly recommend QuickBooks for you. I’ve used Peachtree, Microsoft, and QuickBooks before… QuickBooks has the easiest “invoicing from time-sheets” feature which would be ideal if you are billing by the hour. You set up “jobs” and “customers” and fill in your time-sheet accordingly… it’s really very intuitive and easy to use.

Have you looked into the QuickBooks Simple Start program? If you don’t have inventory or payroll this is the cheaper way to go.

I had a small accounting business. It was great. Keep in mind that you need to know how to do accounting and use the software properly. Do you know accounting? Are you familiar with the biggest accounting software packages for small business like Quickbooks and Peachtree? If so, then from there all you need is your trusty PC, your printer, a software program, some paper, and a back-up device like a flash-drive. Charge at least $50 per hour.
